In a world where human beings are increasingly isolated from the wildlife that lives all around them, the Louisville Zoo introduces our Commonwild at Kentucky Trails. This new habitat will offer opportunities to explore connections between people, regional wildlife, and the planet we share. The largest project in the Louisville Zoo’s 57-year history, Kentucky Trails will encompass 17 acres, welcome new species to the Zoo, and inspire guests in new ways. Our Commonwild will foster a sense of wonder and a sense of belonging. The people, animals and natural resources of our region and shared — together we are the Commonwild.

BY RAIL
The train will return to the Zoo at our Commonwild! It will offer unique views of black bear, bobcat, coyote, bison and elk.
BY WATER
Kentucky has over 79,000 miles of rivers and streams – and our Commonwild will emphasize our waterways and the wildlife that thrives in them. For the first time, guests at the Louisville Zoo will be able to view wildlife from the water with special kayak experiences.
BY TRAIL
The trail through Our Commonwild will showcase the native flora and fauna that makes this region so special. The trails will allow for unique guest experiences including up-close encounters with American buffalo and the chance to high-five an otter!
The Kentuckiana Conservation Center
The Kentuckiana Conservation Center will be the educational hub of our Commonwild. This innovative space will include up close animal encounters, interactive learning opportunities, classroom and event space, and unique opportunities to learn to live with wildlife. The interactive learning activities throughout the building will be designed to cultivate curiosity, deepen understanding of the impact of human behavior on land and animals, and inspire humans to live in balance with the animals all around them. The Kentuckiana Conservation Center will provide a platform to highlight the Zoo’s important conservation partnerships throughout the region and to connect guests to opportunities to take action to preserve wildlife and habitat in our shared home.
